🇮🇳 Independence Day – A Journey Through History

On 15th August 1947, India awoke to freedom after nearly 200 years of British colonial rule. This day marks the culmination of decades of struggle, sacrifice, and unwavering determination by countless freedom fighters.

The roots of the independence movement can be traced to the Revolt of 1857, often regarded as the first major resistance against British control. Over the decades, leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and many others mobilized the masses through movements such as Non-Cooperation (1920), Civil Disobedience (1930), and the Quit India Movement (1942).

On the midnight of 14th–15th August 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru delivered his iconic “Tryst with Destiny” speech, heralding the birth of a sovereign nation. The Indian tricolor was hoisted proudly, symbolizing courage (saffron), peace (white), and prosperity (green).

Since then, Independence Day has been celebrated every year with flag-hoisting ceremonies, patriotic songs, and cultural programs across the country. At the Red Fort in Delhi, the Prime Minister addresses the nation, honoring the sacrifices of the past and envisioning the future.

Independence Day is not just a celebration—it’s a reminder of our responsibility to uphold the ideals of freedom, equality, and unity for generations to come.
